Julian Smedley
Julian Smedley’s musical career started early, as a chorister in an English Cathedral. In London he played regularly on BBC TV & Radio, was a session musician, and an artist under contract with Decca Records. Later, he moved to Washington State where he joined a jazz orchestra as a solo violinist, playing with guests such as Art Lande, Ralph Towner, Gary Peacock and jazz arranger Gil Evans. A Bay Area resident since 1985, he creates music for commercial media, plays jazz and tours with Magnetic Poets. Most recently he premiered his Dance Theater composition Thinking Myself Home at Berkeley’s Zellerbach Playhouse. Julian was co-founder of the HCSF in 1991 and has appeared on several of their CDs, including the first “QHCSF” in 1992, “Swing This” in 1996 Julian continues to expand and grow as both a musician, producer and teacher.
